Mikis Theodorakis recuperating after surgery

first_imgGreek composer Mikis Theodorakis, aged 94, has undergone surgery in Athens. He had a pacemaker installed on Friday following heart problems.A hospital statement said that he is recuperating.The composer is best known for his score for “Zorba the Greek”, however he also wrote the score for “Z” and “Serpico”. He composed the “Mauthausen Trilogy” also known as “The Ballad of Mauthausen”, which has been described as the “most beautiful musical work ever written about the Holocaust” and possibly his best work. He is viewed as Greece’s best-known living composer and was awarded the Lenin Peace Prize.He is also widely known for his role in the resistance during Greece’s dictatorship from 1967 to 1974.Despite his age and ailing health, he is still vocal and active in public affairs.
