Keyresponsibilities of this position are to mentor and facilitatedoctoral student research during the dissertation/capstone researchphase of their program, to engage and support doctoral students asemerging scholar-practitioners, and to contribute to researchdevelopment and improvement teams.What to expect as a Walden contributing faculty member:Faculty members educate Walden University students by effectivelyusing online technology and resources to provide an engaging andsupportive student experience. Faculty members are expected toshare their knowledge and give relevant, actionable feedback incarefully formulated timely communication to students. This isaccomplished in a student-centric learning environment that isrespectful, collaborative and follows Walden University and programspecific guidelines.General Expectations Include: Supportive engagement at all times – build positive rapport,openness, trust, mutual inquiry and listening to students to helpthem learn, discover and apply research skills.Effective online communications to maintain teaching and socialpresence and to stimulate critical thinking and “learning to learn”skills. Training:All new Faculty Members receive specific training from WaldenUniversity with respect to best practices in online learningfacilitation, doctoral mentoring, and effective supervision andreview of dissertations. They also receive socialization into theWalden University culture of quality, integrity, andstudent-learning centeredness and an orientation in their specificdegree program.Residencies:Doctoral level faculty can choose to participate in Residenciesheld domestically or internationally, where they may teachcolloquia, lead writing-intensive workshops, and facilitateschool-wide discussions.Technology Proficiency/Requirements:Faculty members are expected to maintain a high level of technicalproficiency, and have a strong commitment to learning newtechnologies. Faculty are required to have computer and softwareresources that enable effective delivery of academic services to adisbursed community of learners. The Faculty Member must be able touse Microsoft Office products, and must have reliable Internetaccess as well as alternate access as needed.TRAVEL:No travel is required. Doctoral Course Teaching & Learning Facilitation:As indicated above, effective instruction will focus on mentoringstudents at the dissertation/capstone research phase of theprogram, and on assisting in the evolving development of eachstudent as a doctoral scholar. Faculty are expected to engage withstudents to support learning, and are required to be active withinthe Blackboard LMS course (discussions, announcements, group areas,etc.) a minimum of 4 days per week, and to respond to studentquestions within 48 hours. Faculty Members are required to verifythe academic integrity of student postings and submissions and toprovide grades and relevant, actionable, supportive feedback tostudents through Blackboard.Academic Credentials:Doctoral Faculty Members must be appropriately credentialed,possess an earned degree from an accredited institution orrecognized by a country’s ministry of education in the disciplinebeing taught. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:Candidates should possess:An earned doctorate in the in the field of healthcare or healthrequired.A record of scholarship, publication and research in methodsand research design that is appropriate to support doctoralstudents in the field of health or healthcare (preferred).Strong relationship-building skills with students with diversebackgrounds.Successful mentoring relationships that support mutual inquiryand student outcomes.Advocating for the learning and development needs ofstudents.Strong writing, research, and oral communication skills.Three years of effective teaching experience at the degreelevel of program (preferred).Online experience at the degree level of program(preferred).Ideally, a candidate should be able to demonstrate:Success at building effective student learning relationshipsthat support mutual inquiry and doctoral quality student progressand learning outcomes. This includes the ability to provide clearexpectations and helping students “know what to do next”.Strong servant leadership dispositions. This includes theability to listen carefully to students, and to be approachable andsupportive within Walden’s policies.Strong time-management and co-project management skills.Ideally, a candidate should be strongly committed to:Advocating for the learning and development needs of studentsearning their degrees in a distance learning environment.Supporting the development of Walden University students tofoster positive social change as scholar-practitioners.Best practices in teaching, research, advising andmentoring.The ongoing professional development of themselves asfaculty.The willingness to perform other duties and responsibilitiesthat management may deem necessary from time to time.
